Thanks to SilverThreading for the open invite to take part in her new blogging event, Writer’s Quote Wednesday.
Maya Angelou is one of my most, most favorite authors. She has been with me for more years than many of my friends. Her writing has influenced and guided me in so many ways during both the highs and lows of living.
In those times when I feel defeated, reading a passage from one of Maya’s books, poems or quotes motivates me to never give up and be defeated.
During this final season life, I am going on a journey to define "ME." Opening up and going outside of my comfort zone to redefine ME.. Exploring and pursuing new interests that will lead to personal happiness, serenity, and tranquility.
In undertaking this mission, overcoming the FEAR is my greatest challenge. Fear has played a large role in my life, but I overcame the FEAR of breast cancer, chronic pain associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, and Sleep Apnea.
My new mantra: FEAR has two meanings: "(1) Forget Everything And Run, or (2) Face Everything and Rise. The Choice is Mine."
Blogging here I come ready or not!!!

Welcome and thank you! Excellent quote. Stand tall and let nothing hold you back! 💗
I had the honor of hearing her lecture a few years ago and it was life changing. Packed house full of diversity and you could have heard a pin drop. Great post, thank you for the reminder.
Unfortunately, I never saw her in person. But, one of the last public appearances I watched was when she spoke at the President’s Inauguration in 2012 and I am grateful for this memory.
I now see the truth in this. But when I first read it at a much younger age, the truth evaded me and I allowed myself to be defined by the circumstances within my space. Thank you for your comments.

Maya helped me, too–reading her autobiography about raising a black son as a single parent..

I agree with you Sistah, Maya Angelou was an inspiring, awesome woman. I was so sad when she passed.

She was a talented and gifted wordsmith. I am uplifted by her words and I periodically read a passage from one of her books or a poem.

I love her writing as well. One I’ll always remember, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, as an example of how one isn’t defined by their circumstances.
